Click the 'Table' icon if you wish to return to the Table View.
There is a title located above the map telling you which indicator and date are being mapped. There is also a legend beside the map that lists the area types displayed in the map and the thematic classes. You can change the number of thematic classes using the Number of Ranges drop down menu located below the legend. Note that the actual number of thematic classes may be less than that indicated in the Number of Ranges box if your advanced table only includes a very small number of areas. You can also change the colour scheme using the Colour Scheme drop down menu located below the legend. You can reverse the colour scheme by checking the Reverse Shading checkbox.
The toolbar located above the map gives access to tools for interacting with the map. From left to right, the tools are the following:
Zoom to original map extent. Click this icon to return to the original extent of the map.
Zoom in. Click the Zoom in icon and then click on the location in the map you wish to zoom in to. To zoom to an area, click and hold the mouse button while dragging a box around the area in the map that you wish to zoom to.
Zoom out. Click the Zoom out icon and then click on the location in the map you wish to zoom out from. To zoom out so that the geography fills an area of a particular size, click and hold the mouse button while dragging a box around the area in the map that you wish the geography to fill.
Identify an area and its data value. Click the Identify an area icon and then click an area in the map. The name of the area and its data value will be displayed above the map.
Show or hide background map. Click the Show or hide background map icon to toggle the background map.
You can hold your mouse pointer over the icons in the toolbar to find out what the tools do. Click an icon to use a tool. The icon for the active tool is highlighted in yellow. To pan the map click the yellow arrows located around the map border.
You can display additional layers in map to help you make your selection. These are listed below the map. Click a layer, or type of layer, and then click the 'Update Map' button. You can select multiple layers, or types of layer, by holding down the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard and clicking different layers. Select None and then the 'Update Map' button if you wish to remove any additional layers from the map.
Note that advanced maps do not currently support thematic mapping for point locations (e.g. schools) or the display of categorical (text) indicators.
A link to a metadata summary is located at the bottom of the page. Click this to access a page with links to metadata for the datasets and indicators included in your advanced table.
You can save the map as an image by holding your mouse pointer over the map and clicking the right mouse button. Choose the Save Image option to save the image to your computer. Note that the image will not include the map legend.
In order to use the map and legend in for example a Word document the process is as follows:
Use the mouse to select the area of the profile you wish to use.
Copy your selection by using either CTRL-C, or the Copy option from the Edit menu, or right-clicking and choosing Copy from the menu.
Paste the result into your document by selecting the place you wish to add the profile and using either CTRL-V, or the Paste option from the Edit menu, or right-clicking and choosing Paste from the menu.
Click the 'Back' icon if you wish to return to the previous page.
